Musical Mystery Machines with Ken Whiteley

Award winning songwriter, Ken Whiteley, leads students in an interactive sing-along that develops and reinforces the themes, concepts and vocabulary of simple machines. From a definition of work, through force, incline planes and gears, young students will have a great time and the concepts and vocabulary will stick in a new way. This material, designed in conjunction with Mariposa In The Schools as an interactive support for the primary curriculum in science, was nominated for a Juno award and received an American Library Assocation’s Notable Recording Award.
World of Puppetry with Puppetmongers (Ann Powell and David Powell)
Grades 1 to 3, 4 to 6, and 7 to 8 | maximum audience 100 | available January to June 2018
Both an introduction to the intriguing diversity of puppetry traditions around the world, and a demonstration of simple puppet making techniques, A World of Puppetry appeals to students’ imaginations and sense of wonder. It also gives teachers a solid technical basis with which to inspire creativity in follow-up classroom activities in this interdisciplinary art form. Each presentation is tailored to be audience age appropriate.

Puppetmongers guide students as they explore and develop their own artistic talents and skills, in planning short plays, designing and building puppets with readily available and age appropriate materials and tools, rehearsing and performing for each other. Workshops tie in well with class projects and curriculum: for example, the study of light with shadow puppets; the telling of myths and legends with traditional style rod puppets or, folk and fairy tales with toy theatres. Professional development for educators is also available.
