Mariella Bertelli has been telling stories for a long time and also worked as a children’s librarian for 22 years. Her love for children and their right to literacy has brought her to the island of Lampedusa since migrants, asylum seekers and refugees from persecution, war and poverty have been making their way to this tiny island’s shore and led her coordinating the International Board on Books for Young People’s Silent Books Exhibit Tour in Canada. Her rich repertoire includes folk and fairy tales, literary, personal and original stories that she tells both English and Italian, sometimes blending the two in an intriguing narrative blend.
