New! Kamishibai Workshop

Grades 2 to 5, 1 class/2 half-day sessions, maximum 1 sessions/day

Kamishibai is storytelling with illustrated art shown through a small wooden theatre. It originated in Japan in the Middle Ages and is now used all over the world as storytelling theatre. After listening and viewing a kamishibai story, students will have a chance to develop their own Kamishibai. They will learn about narrative and how to decode the story through storyboarding. They will create their own set or a classroom set then they will learn to tell the story the Kamishibai way!

Puppetmongers

New! A World of Puppetry

Grades 1 to 3, 4 to 6, and 7 to 8, maximum 100

Both a survey of the exciting variety of puppetry traditions around the world, and a demonstration of simple puppet making techniques, this presentation appeals to students’ imaginations and sense of wonder. It also gives teachers a solid technical basis with which to lead classroom activity in this interdisciplinary art form.  Each presentation is tailored to be audience age appropriate.
